American-Indonesian trade promoted at New York forum

Jewels of Java president shares advice on U.S. trade shows

Casual Living Staff -- Casual Living, 2/3/2012 3:27:41 PM

Jewels of Java President Karel Simeon drew on nearly two decades of experience with U.S. trade shows as one of four speakers at a forum on Indonesia trade policy.

Other speakers included Ni Made Marthini, commercial attaché from the Republic of Indonesia embassy in Washington, D.C.; Marideth Sandler of Sandler Trade LLC and Heru Priya Warjaka, head of the Indonesia delegation to the New York International Gift Fair. The forum was hosted by Rosanna Suparmono, the Indonesian Consul of Economic Affairs in New York, and Wayne Forest of The American Indonesian Chamber of Commerce.

Each speaker offered information and advice to the delegation and the invited guests. Marthini spoke in detail on current trends in Indonesian trade around the world. Sandler spoke about GSP benefits and issues and spoke on U.S. trade initiatives with Indonesia.

The Jan. 27 event was held in conjunction with the opening of the New York International Gift Fair. The Indonesia Delegation participated in the Gift Fair for the first time by featuring five companies exhibiting furniture, handcraft, clothing and art from Yogyakarta, Indonesia.

Simeon was instrumental in bringing the group to the trade fair after many months of work with the consulate of Indonesia. Jewels of Java is a member of the American Indonesia Chamber of Commerce, which holds events throughout the year to promote trade between the two nations.
